We decode casein so athletes don't have to guess.
100 Casein is an independent, evidence-led publication reviewing the science, sourcing, and real-world performance of casein protein. We translate dense nutrition research into decisions you can actually use.
Born from a market flooded with bro-science and shiny tubs.
When 100 Casein launched in 2021, the protein aisle had become a labyrinth of proprietary blends, ghost-ingredient labels, and influencer-grade marketing. Athletes deserved a translator — someone willing to read the fine print, trace the supply chain, and put every claim up against the published evidence. We built that translator.
Today, our editorial team reviews hundreds of casein-forward products each year across isolates, micellar concentrates, blends, and nighttime formulations. We score every tub on a 100-point rubric covering protein integrity, leucine threshold, third-party verification, label transparency, and real digestion. No pay-to-play, no affiliate skew, no exceptions.
See Our Review MethodologyThree commitments that shape every review we publish.
If a claim can't be traced to a study, a certificate of analysis, or a verified supply record, it doesn't make the page. Editorial integrity is the only metric that compounds.
Evidence Over Hype
Every recommendation is anchored to peer-reviewed studies, clinical trials, and the work of registered sports dietitians. If the science is mixed, we say so — and we tell you which side of the debate carries more weight.
Sourcing Transparency
We trace casein back to its dairy origin, flag proprietary blends that obscure the casein-to-whey ratio, and credit brands that voluntarily publish third-party Certificates of Analysis. Hidden supply chains lose points — period.
Independent Reviews
We purchase every product we test at full retail price. Brands cannot pay for placement, cannot edit our scoring, and cannot pre-approve our copy. Our affiliate disclosure is on every page so you always know how we make money.
The work, measured in years and grams.
Trust is built one verified label at a time. Here is where the catalog stands at the start of 2026.
How a 100-point score gets built, from the lab bench to your shaker.
Every product we review moves through the same four-stage pipeline. Reviewers cannot skip a stage, and brands cannot opt out of a stage.
Procurement & Receipt
Products are purchased by editorial staff from major retailers, brand sites, and third-party marketplaces using rotating payment methods. Receipts, lot numbers, and best-by dates are filed before unboxing.
Label & Document Audit
Two reviewers independently transcribe the Supplement Facts panel, ingredient deck, and allergen statement. We request Certificates of Analysis and ISO/IEC 17025 lab reports directly from manufacturers.
Independent Lab Verification
We contract ISO-accredited labs to verify protein content, leucine threshold, heavy-metal panels, and microbial counts on roughly one in three products. Brands cannot select which lots we test.
Real-World Sensory & Mix Test
Trained reviewers prepare each product in standardized conditions — water volume, shaker type, rest time — and score mouthfeel, grittiness, flavor fidelity, and post-digestion comfort on a 1–10 scale.
From pasture to powder, every link has to hold.
Casein is a slow-digesting whole protein, and that means the choices made on the farm show up in your post-workout glass. We audit four critical links in the chain before any product earns a passing score.
- Dairy origin. Grass-fed and Grade-A certification carries weight. We penalize brands that cannot name the cooperative or co-manufacturer.
- Filtration method. Cold microfiltration preserves micellar structure and native casein fractions. Acid precipitation loses points.
- Third-party verification. NSF, Informed Sport, BSCG, or equivalent. We look for sport-banned-substance coverage, not just a logo on a label.
- Lot traceability. Each tub is traceable to a specific dairy run. Brands that publish lot-level CoAs earn a sourcing bonus.
The humans behind the 100-point score.
